Juntos damos más Networking/Happy Hour/Food Drive-Wednesday, November 15 at Cafe Citron

LatinVIP.com's next event will take place next Wednesday, November 15th at Café Citron in Washington, DC.
For more information, email us at
rsvp@LatinVIP.com

Did you know that 1 in 2 children under the age of 18 in the District of Columbia, 1 in 5 in Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties, and 1 in 6 in Northern Virginia, are at risk of hunger? Shouldn’t you do something about it? Here’s your opportunity!

In 2002, the co-founders of LatinVIP.com, all long time Washington, D.C. residents, felt, after hosting and planning film screenings, art exhibits, and networking events, that it was time to gather the same attendees of such events but this time to give back to the community. As a result, LatinVIP.com approached local Hispanic student organizations and alumni associations from colleges in the area and invited them to come together for the 1st (at least to our knowledge) Hispanic-driven food drive.

Now in its 5th consecutive year, the food drive entitled “Juntos damos más” (Together We Give More), has grown tremendously. More and more organizations and attendees have joined us each year to help collect hundreds of canned goods for food banks in our area. This year, the Capital Area Food Bank has been chosen as the beneficiary of the food drive.

Here are some interesting stats about this organization:

  • Over 40% of households served by the Capital Area Food Bank have children;
  • Food insecurity refers to the lack of access to enough food to fully meet basic needs at all times due to lack of financial resources? Nearly 65% of Capital Area Food Bank clients are classified as food insecure. (Hunger in America 2001, Mathematica Policy Research);
  • Approximately 11% of the Capital Area Food Bank clients are senior citizens.

For these reasons, and many more, we invite you to support this cause by donating 2 canned goods or make a monetary donation of $10 to the Capital Area Food Bank on Wednesday, November 15th starting at 5:30pm at Café Citron, located in 1343 Connecticut Avenue, NW. ¡Remember that juntos damos más!
